Polysics @ Hotel Utah

I love Polysics. I think I need to get some metallic gold pompoms for their next show. That would make it perfect.

Bathroom repairs

The caulking on my shower is coming off and I've been bugging my brother to fix it for weeks and weeks. He starts, estatically, showing me this tub touch up paint he's gonna use to repair the chip on his bathroom. I'm pissed because he can fix his own tub but what about mine!? So, I swear, I shouted this: "I need caulk!"

If you don't get that, say it out loud.

Oops.

Mrs. Patty Bouvier

So everyone knows about Sunday night's episodes of The Simpson...

A quote fro L. Brent Bozell III, president of the Parents Television Council:
"I'd rather them not do it at all," he added. "You've got a show watched by millions of children. Do children need to have gay marriage thrust in their faces as an issue? Why can't we just entertain them?"

"Why can't we just entertain them?" Hahahahahaha. Isn't the swell to know that the president of the Parents Television Coucil thinks that we should only entertain children?

Hey Baby

Sex hungry roaches lured to death Synthetic sex pheromones are being developed as an ingenious way of luring randy cockroaches to their deaths... And cockroaches are very gregarious so they will run back and interact with other members of the colony and they'll pass the pathogen on to them

Gotta love that headline.

The love affair continues

I fucking hate Ticketmaster. I checked my credit card statement today and they charged me twice for my Coachella tickets. That's nearly $300!!! Fuckers. Then I called then and told then what was up. The guy on the phone said, "Oh, we've been getting a lot of calls about that." So he transfers me to another guy who tells me that they can only refund the face value of the tickets meaning that I'm still gonna be charged for the service fees. That's $40 for a mistake I never made. The second set of tickets they're saying I bought wasn't even recorded in my Ticketmaster account nor did I recieve a confirmation email or tickets. WTF?!? I never ordered 6 tickets!!! I bought 3! Ugh. Fucking. ARGH! If you feeling like bitching them out please do.

Fuck you, Ticketbastard.

Interpol @ Warfield w/ Blonde Redhead

Blonde Redhead wasn't as visually interesting to see live as I had hoped for but the music sounded great. They ended their set in the dark so you never got to see them walk off the stage. Nice exit.

Interpol, interpol, interpol. Carlos D stills wears his holster. You would think it would have gotten old by now but I guess I am mistaken. I noticed the guitarist, Daniel Kessler, hardly ever does any back up vocals on the new album. The keyboardist signs them now. Maybe that's why I don't like the new album as much. Some fans kept screaming "Stella!" but they never played "Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down." Oh well. The guy that sat next to Dan said that he had been a fan of Interpol back when they were playing shitty venues in NYC. He didn't look like a hipster at all which makes me wonder what kinda places they were playing at then. Hmmm...

Five Day Recap

Saturday
Went to the Ferry Building with my dad's childhood best friend's older daughter (Ahreum), her friend (ER doctor, Larry, 34?), and my brother (you know, my only brother). We tried to get lunch at this Mexican restuarant but they only had like four entrees on the menu and they charged like $4 for chips and salsa. So we ended up eating at this Japanese deli which was still pricey but it was alright. I liked the seaweed salad. My brother picked up a couple loaves of mighty delicious Acme bread to take home. Ya know, the Ferry Building would be a lot cooler if it wasn't so freaking expensive! Later we hung out at Larry's apartment near the ballpark. It's pretty cool but way, way expensive ($2,000+ for an average sized 1 bedroom apartment!) We decided to go for some coffee at the large yet cozy Crossroads cafe. Dinner at La Suite followed. The tables were full so we were seated at the bar but the servers were all very friendly and seemed happy. The food was pretty tasty too. Larry orderd the fish of the day and the server brough it out on a tray dissected the whole fish to remove the bones then assembled it artfully back together for Larry to eat. The whole thing must have taken 10 minutes. Crazy!

Sunday
I went to the ballet for the first time with Jed. It was was broke up into three separate short performances. I think I would have preferred to see one long ballet with a decernable storyline but it was fun anyway. I love seeing the dancers on their toes practically floating backwards. Afterward, Jed and I made pasta with putanesca sauce, garlic bread, and dessert. (Don't ever make cheesecake from a box...) I dunno what exactly was wrong with me but I got all moody and was bitchy the entire time we were cooking. The next day my brother scolded me for being so mean to Jed while I was cooking. It's wasn't that he was doing anything wrong it was just me being moody. Dinner went well despite me. I worked on homework and then crashed but I couldn't sleep.

Monday
I spent all day at school and didn't do anything for Valentine's Day.

Tuesday
I had breakfast with Ahreum and my brother at Ella's. We had about an hour to kill before Ahreum had to be at the airport to fly back to Ann Arbor so we drove to the newly rebuilt Cliff House. I bought a gigantic Michael Schwab mug from the gift shop that says "Take a hike" (har har har). We sat on the second floor and looked out the windows at the stormy ocean and the high tide. It's a good view. After my brother and I dropped off Ahreum I met Jed in Japantown for lunch. He showed up little late and very wet from the rain but had violet tulips wrapped in brown paper. How adorable! Later that evening I met up with Dan at the Warfield to see Blonde Redhead and Interpol perform. My faith in Interpol has been restored! I think the encore was the best part (they played "Specialist"!).

Today
I got up early and bus/BARTed to school in Oakland to work on my screenprinting. I spent the entire day printing, preping, and scrubbing. I didn't come back home until 5. So tired. I think it's time for some coffee because the day isn't over yet. Oy.

Apple is poison

I finally got my freaking computer back. They replaced the broken 40 gig hard drive with a "new" 80 gig hard drive. Let's see how long it lasts this time! At least time I know for sure they changed the hard drive because they gave me an 80 gig one. Included in the package from Apple was a note saying that my battery (which only holds a charge for 5 minutes) is not "defective." Whatever, bitches.

Oh, (almost) Valentine Horoscope

Capricorn: You woke up feeling nostalgic, sentimental and oh, so amorous.
Fortunately, you can devote every waking moment to the pursuit of your
partner's happiness. Of course, when you give, you also receive ... all kinds
of things.

"Receive"? :wink wink nudge nudge:

Forcing blooms

When it's cold outside, dreaming of spring doesn't bring it any closer. But "forcing" woody branches does. If the term sounds cruel, the pratice is gentle: Cut boughs, often snipped during routine winter pruning, are brought indoors and coaxed to flower or leaf early. Exposed to springlike warmth... the twigs emerge from their sleep a good month ahead of schedule.

Be patient/passive and wait for spring? Or cut a branch and force it to bloom indoors?

Are you a professional chef?

I went to Sur La Table to redeem the last bit of credit left on the giftcard John gave me for Christmas. My plan was to make Molten Chocolate Cakes with a raspberry and pomegranate coulis so I need to get some ramekins. After hunting for some suitable bakeware I brought the 4-pack of ramekins to the counter to pay for them and the lady says, "Are you professional chef?"

Um, no.

However, the cakes were hot and liquidy and to die for. I would have taken a photo but they were consumed immediately.

I loooooove tasty, tasty food.

The Colour, The Elected, and Eisley @Slim's

Hellooooo The Colour! These rockers sound like a cross between The Cure and The Strokes but more clean cut. The singer is a hottie and has a striking resemblence to Val Kilmer. He moves like The Hives singer, if The Hives singer were actually super sexy. The singer came down into the audience for the last song to hug some chubby groupies. Oh boy... The EP kinda sucks in comparision to the live show but it's still worth checking out the Myspace MP3s.

Blake Sennett, the singer for The Elected (who is also in Rilo Kiley), is my shyness hero. He was rocking out on stage and cracking jokes but then ran off the stage afterwards in that I-wanna-stick-around-and-talk-but-i'm-kinda-scared way. Aww. Awwww. Well, anyway, I hadn't The Elected's music before the show and they had more twang than I was expecting mostly due in part to this instrument I haven't seen before that the guitarist was playing. Blake started asking the audience if we thought the bassist, who is extremely tall, extremely skinny, extremely pale, and has a beard, was good looking. Everyone cheered mockingly and then he screwed up on the next song so everyone stopped playing. Blake said, "Well, that song sucked anyway" and they started playing another one. Smooth move, Pinsky...

Blake!

And Eisley? Cute, friendly, and awesome... of course. What else is there to say?

Weekend Accomplishments

--Got Coachella tickets and a hotel room reserved in Palm Springs
--Watched two sweaty boys exercise
--Baked a tuna casserole which was completely eaten in one sitting by three people
--Watched Spike and Mike's Twisted Animation Festival which was not terribly funny except for the last cartoon in which the boy says, "I have money" and the girl replies, "I love you."
--Consumed sake without dropping a cup of it into a mug of beer (I'm growing up!)
--Used a bathroom in a co-op full of Cal students that was dirtier than any bar or nightclub bathroom I've ever been in
--Drank beer instead of eating food because the only food around was meat (forget about that "growning up" thing)
--Watched the Superbowl and finally learned what "downs" are.
--Romantically walked home in the rain with That Boy.

AppleCare is yet again sending me another box in the mail so I mail my laptop out for repairs. How could I have the EXACT same problem as I did before? They probably didn't replace the hard drive. Ergh. This is it's 3rd trip to AppleCare. I asked the AppleCare guy on the phone if Apple replaces bad equipment and he said they determine if it needs to be replaced on a case by case basis. I hope they have sympathy for me. Fucking Mac. At least the ancient Dell laptop I'm using now still kinda works.

My Yoshitomo Nara watch is broken according to the technician at Macy's. :( So I bought a new watch so I won't have the wear the one my dad got me. I'm hopeless.

On saturday the fire alarm in my building went off. I went outside but as usual there wasn't a fire. However, someone's sprinkers turned on and ruined their condo and the two units below theirs. Now my brother is freaked out that we might accidently activate the sprinklers causing our home and belongings will be ruined. Water damage is no joke. He's got me worried too now.

Some of my neighbors have apparently been stalking and videotaping our building manager at his house and spreading rumors that's he gay and has AIDS. WTF?!? I think he's good manager who actually gets shit done. People can be so evil and stupid. It pisses me off!
